From the Beginning

Mae challis

In the beginning . . .

Hello there!

I’m Mae Challis. A singing songwriting music maker!

I always have been, and most definitely always will be.

I’ve been playing guitar since I was 6 years old, piano from around the age of 9, drums came along around 13, and I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember.

I entered a local talent competition called ‘The Next Big Thing’ when I was fourteen and came third. The following year I went back, and won! My biggest desire with my music is to be happy and successful which I think happens to be one and the same.

After I won ‘The Next Big Thing’ I worked hard recording a five track EP which I called ‘Released’ and followed that up with a cover of Gnarles Barkley’s classic dance hit ‘Crazy’.

I formed my own backing band soon after that. With my wonderful band, I was chosen as the support act at sold out shows for a number of artists including John Newman and Turin Brakes which was a fantastic experience.

I’m a passionately creative performer and I love the atmosphere of a great gig and an appreciative audience.

Now that we’re all caught up, welcome to my website and blog! I hope you enjoy having a look around, be sure to subscribe so you don’t miss anything!

Love, Mae X

  1. Dear lovely Mae Challis, as a child of the sixties I have seen many stars. Many of them I knew they were stars even before any of the grownups around me could tell. I am here to tell you that you are a star in every way. Your voice and way of singing is absolutely beautiful and you play a fabulous guitar as well. You are absolutely a joy to hear and to watch. I would be very happy to see DVD of your performances be available for sale. DVD videos of Crazy, Headphone, Rollercoaster, Beyond the sea, New Year’s Eve, Hilda, Words aint enough and many more would be very nice if available. Also, your guitar arrangement of the classic song ‘Dream a Little Dream of Me’ is very, very nice and you sing and perform it beautifully. Please look into some more of such classic songs and give them some of your own magic. I would be very happy see more of that. Meanwhile, stay happy and lovely as you are.
